CloudEx Inc. ("we", "us", or "our") operates the "Measuring Tools Pro" app (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices available to you. By using the Service, you are deemed to have agreed to the practices described in this Policy.
1. Our Core Principle
Measuring Tools Pro brings together seven tools that measure with your phone's sensors and camera: a bubble level, a ruler, a protractor and angle finder, an AR measure, a light meter, a vibration meter and seismometer, and a metal detector. All measuring runs entirely on your device. Your sensor readings, the camera image, and the measurements you save are yours: we never view, collect, upload, or transmit them to our servers. There is no account and no sign-up. Specifically, we do not have access to any of the following:
- The readings of your phone's motion, magnetic, and light sensors
- The camera image, or the images you save
- The photos on your device, including a photo you choose to measure angles on
- The measurements you save and the notes you add to them
- Your location (the app does not use location at all)
Your measurements leave your device only through actions you take yourself: sharing or copying a record, or exporting your records as a CSV file (Section 2).
2. Sensors, Camera, Photos, and Your Measurements
- Sensors: To show the level, angles, vibration, magnetic field, and brightness, the app reads the accelerometer, the gravity sensor, the magnetic field sensor (calibrated and uncalibrated), and the light sensor. The sensors are read only while a tool that needs them is on screen. The readings are processed only on your device and are never sent to us or to any third party.
- Camera: With your permission, the camera is used only by the AR measure and the camera protractor, and only while those screens are open. The camera image is only shown on screen; it is not recorded and is not sent anywhere. The other tools do not use the camera.
- AR measure and ARCore: The AR measure uses Google Play Services for AR (ARCore), provided by Google LLC, which processes the camera image on your device to find surfaces and follow the phone's movement. On phones that ARCore does not support, the AR measure uses the tilt method instead (the phone's angle and the height you hold it at).
- Saving an image: An image is saved to your device's Photos (Pictures/MeasuringTools) only when you tap "Save image" in the camera protractor or the AR measure. Images in Photos can be seen by other apps that you have allowed to access your photos.
- Measuring on a photo: When you choose a photo to measure angles on, the app opens only the one photo you pick, through the Android photo picker. It has no access to your other photos, and the photo you pick is not sent anywhere.
- When anything leaves your device: Only when you share or copy a record, or export your records as a CSV file (Premium). The text or file is created only when you tap, and goes only where you send it through the Android share sheet (or to your clipboard). We never receive any of it.
3. Information We Collect
3.1 Information Collected Automatically
- Anonymous crash reports: Via Firebase Crashlytics. When the app crashes, we collect the stack trace, device model, Android version, and app version. This does not include personally identifiable information, the camera image, your photos, or your measurements.
- Purchase information: We use purchase tokens issued by Google Play to verify your one-time "Premium" purchase. We never receive any payment information such as credit card numbers.
- List of our other apps: To show our other apps, the app downloads their names, descriptions, and icons from our content server (static files hosted on Cloudflare Pages). The request contains no personal data from the app. As with any request to a web server, the server receives your device's IP address as part of the connection. Tapping an app in the list opens its page on Google Play.
3.2 Information Stored Only on Your Device
- Saved measurements: Each record you save (the tool, the value and unit as shown, the date and time, and an optional note) is stored in the app's own storage on your device. Up to 500 records are kept.
- Calibration values: The corrections you set when you calibrate a tool (for example the bubble level or the ruler) are stored only on this device.
- App settings: The theme, units, sound and vibration, keeping the screen on, and similar settings are stored on your device, as is whether the welcome screens and the review request have been shown.
- Android backup: If backup is turned on in your device settings, Android may include the app's settings and your saved measurements in the backup it saves to your own Google account, and may copy them to a new phone when you transfer your data. Calibration values are always excluded, because every phone's sensors and screen are different. This is handled by Android; we have no access to it.
- When you uninstall: Uninstalling the app or clearing its data deletes everything the app has stored: your saved measurements, calibration values, and settings. Images already saved to Photos remain until you delete them.
3.3 Information We Explicitly Do Not Collect
- Your sensor readings, the camera image, your photos, or the images you save
- Your saved measurements and notes
- Your location
- Your name, email address, phone number, or contacts (the app has no account or sign-up)
- Your device's advertising ID
- A history of the websites you visit or the contents of your communications
- The contents of your screen or of other apps
3.4 Permissions the App Requests and Their Purposes
Measuring Tools Pro uses only a few OS permissions, and only for the stated purposes:
- Camera (CAMERA) — Used by the AR measure and the camera protractor, only while those screens are open. If you do not allow it, all the other tools still work.
- Vibration (VIBRATE) — Gives a short vibration when the level is level, when an angle reaches your target, or when the metal detector picks up metal. You can turn it off in the settings.
- High sampling rate sensors (HIGH_SAMPLING_RATE_SENSORS) — Lets the vibration meter read the accelerometer at its fastest rate. This is a normal permission granted at install, so no dialog is shown. The readings stay on your device.
- Storage (WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, Android 9 and earlier only) — Saves images to Photos when you tap "Save image". Not requested on Android 10 and later.
- Internet (INTERNET) — Used only for crash reports, Google Play purchase verification, in-app reviews and in-app updates, downloading the list of our other apps, and showing this privacy policy in the app (the app shows a copy stored in the app when you are offline). Your sensor readings, the camera image, and your measurements are never sent over the internet.
4. How We Use Information
The limited information we collect is used only for the following purposes:
- Operating and maintaining the Service
- Verifying your Premium purchase
- Diagnosing and fixing crashes
- Responding to support inquiries
- Complying with applicable laws
5. Third-Party Services
Measuring Tools Pro uses the following third-party services. Each service has its own privacy policy.
- Firebase Crashlytics (Google LLC) — anonymous crash diagnostic data
- Google Play Billing (Google LLC) — the one-time Premium purchase; payment is completed on Google Play, and we receive only a purchase token
- Google Play In-App Review and In-App Updates (Google LLC) — let you rate the app and install updates without leaving it; handled by Google Play
- Google Play Services for AR (ARCore) (Google LLC) — finds surfaces in the camera image for the AR measure, on your device. The AR measure runs on Google Play Services for AR, which is provided by Google LLC and governed by the Google Privacy Policy.
- Cloudflare Pages (Cloudflare, Inc.) — hosts the static list of our other apps
Measuring Tools Pro does not use your device's advertising ID and does not share your data with advertising networks.
6. Data Retention
- Crash reports: retained for 90 days, then deleted.
- Support emails: retained for 12 months after the last reply, then deleted (except where legally required).
- Your saved measurements, calibration values, and settings on your device: kept until you delete them, uninstall the app, or clear the app's data. When you save more than 500 records, the oldest are removed automatically.
- Images you saved to Photos: kept until you delete them.
7. International Data Transfers
We are based in Japan. The infrastructure used for crash diagnostics and for hosting the list of our other apps may be located in various countries. When you use the Service, the minimal information described above may be processed outside your country of residence under standard contractual safeguards.
